The Undead Life of Molly Thorn

cover of The Undead Life of Molly Thorn by Lisa Wells

Molly Thorn used to be young and hip. Then she died. Now, she’s back from the second veil as a hot-flashing, brain-glitching, middle-aged woman. Worse yet, the shop she owns—Unraveling Yarn—is a cover for her new position as Assistant to the Grim Reaper of the Magicals. The guy’s a total grump.

On her first undead night, Molly discovers a co-ed group of misfit Mythicals hiding in her attic: a vampire, an ogre, a dragon, and a fairy. The eclectic group of knitting enthusiasts fuss and discuss absolutely everything, but sex after forty is their favorite topic upon which to share their questionable collection of wisdom.

There’s one small problem to the Undead Life of Molly Thorn. The previous owner of her body, now a ghost, has filed a petition to get it back. While Molly would gladly trade it in for a younger model, that’s not a freaking option. If she loses her body, she morphs into a coffin dust bunny.

And that’s not high on her list of bad future decisions to make.

Reviews:

I love funny, clever stories with fascinating, unexpected characters, this book has it all!

I enjoyed the Singles Town series by Lisa Wells and was glad to revisit it the town in this book. This is a new series so we are not as in depth with most of the original characters from the other series but there’s enough cross over to feel like a quick visit with old friends. If you like paranormal/mythical stories with lots of silly twists then you should grab this one (or the other series, or both!).

Laugh out loud funny

In true Lisa Wells form, this book was phenomenal. It had me in stitches from the very beginning. It’s a great original take on a Grim Reaper plot. The characters are extremely likable and developed well. And as for Molly, well, let’s just say I feel her pain. LOL. Plus the ding dong sayings are so funny.

Laugh out loud series starter

Fun and quirky story of a young ghost moved into a middle aged body and forced to be the grim reapers assistant! Laugh out loud situations and snarky fun dialogue. The secondary characters are a riot. Picture a ogre learning to knit! This book is part of a series, so there is a cliffhanger.

Who knew hot flashes could be so funny!

Molly used to be young and hip (We think!). Then she died and was existing in the second veil waiting to be transferred to the third veil. Instead of that much waited for transfer, she’s back from in the living as a hot-flashing, brain-glitching, middle-aged woman who wears *GASP* pantyhose. The shop she owns—Unraveling Yarn—is a cover for her new position as Assistant to the Grim Reaper of the Magicals. Worse, the previous owner of her body, now a ghost, wants her body back. That wouldn’t be a problem if she could get a younger body, but that option isn’t possible. It’s either stay where she is or POOF! – a coffin dust bunny. Thus begins The Undead Life of Molly Thorn!

Oh my gosh! This is such a great book Ms. Lisa Wells has written. Molly is just a hoot as she deals with her current ‘living’ situation as well as her REAL job. The one where she helps the dead with unfinished business so they can move on. I can commiserate with her as she deals with the hot flashes and all the chaos that ensues around her. Plenty of entertaining secondary characters to bring even more levity to the story. I love the pacing of the story and all the little surprises that popped up along the way.

Confession time. I didn’t realize this was part of a series. Honestly, I read the blurb, found it interesting and decided on the spot I wanted to read it. I was pretty much sold at coffin dust bunny and didn’t look beyond that. So, when I got to the end and everything came to a screeching cliffhanger stop, I literally blinked a few times and started screaming. NOOOOO!!!

I received this book from BookSirens. I was not compensated for the book other than the entertainment it provided. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

A charming tale grew on me like…grey hairs!

Molly Thorn can’t remember her life, or her death, really… for that matter. However, she has been given the opportunity of a lifetime, she is the assistant to the Grim Reaper and is tasked for helping those special cases who need a little help crossing over. Her job is to see if she can help them complete the task that is holding them onto our planet.

I must admit, I wasn’t a big fan of Molly’s in the beginning of the story. You see, her memory is wiped clean and, while she is in a middle aged body— her spirit is really 28 years old. And, it was quite annoying– I mean 40 is not that old. However, as Molly settled in her job and started to get some of her memories back, you saw the sweet person that she could be, the one that you could see why the former Assistant would choose her.

Wonderful read

Love the way this story brings new life to the characters in Harmony and Mayhem, while at the same time introducing new characters and pulling you into a whole new story.

I received this book as an arc and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The Undead Life of Molly Thorn

I enjoyed reading this book!

Molly Thorn is a young ghost in the second veil about to be promoted to the third veil. There is a mix up and she finds herself in the body of a menopausal 40 year old women. Molly learns that the previous owner of the body wants it back. Because of the mix up, if the previous owner gets the body back, Molly will not be able to return where she was and she will no longer exist.

She’s now the new assistant to the uber-sexy “X”, aka, the Grim Reaper.

This is a light and fast read. The characters are enjoyable. This is the first in a new series and I am looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Fun new series

Molly Thorn used to be a young ghost! She wakes up in the body of a menopausal 40 year old with bad fashion taste for sure, but that’s just the start of this original story. She has been dropped into this body to become an assistant to the new grim reaper. She’s got a great cover story and a big house filled with mythical characters to keep her company. Molly’s having some issues adjusting to her new body and job! She’s learning a new job, dealing with her boss, and trying to help ghosts finish their last wishes so they can potentially cross over. All of this and hot flashes too! If that weren’t enough, the original owner of her body is staking a claim to get it back. I enjoyed this first book in a series. This book is busy from start to finish! I’m excited to see where the next story goes for Molly.

This was a fun one, can’t wait to read more from the series!

This was such a fun read! There were several moments where I cackled out loud. I am looking forward to continuing this series. The spicy parts were just right! Not too much spice to read on my lunch break at work (hehe) Just enough to make it exciting! The characters and situations they find themselves in reminds me of a blend of Practical Magic, Charmed, and and Discovery of Witches with a splash of Murder She Wrote and Supernatural!
